Wix Pricing: How Much Does a Wix Website Cost?

Website builders not only make it easy to create a website but also, relatively affordable. One of the most popular platforms is Wix. The winner of EXPERTE.com's test shines thanks to its multitude of features, ease of use, and excellent price-performance ratio. However, not every Wix website costs the same.

We took a closer look at the provider's rates, premium add-ons, and possible hidden fees, to let you know how much you should expect to pay for a Wix website.

Since Wix isn't only for creating regular websites, but also full-fledged online stores, its plans are divided between Website and Business/eCommerce plans.

The most important differences between the two types of subscription plans (4 Website and 3 Business/eCommerce) are highlighted in the table below. What you'll pay depends on the length of your subscription, but decreases the longer your contract is (monthly, annual, 24-month, or 36-month). To compare each, we determined the effective monthly price for a 12-month plan.

All premium Website plans (Combo, Unlimited, Pro, and VIP) include a custom domain for a year, a free SSL certificate, and round-the-clock customer service. Differences do exist in terms of bandwidth, storage space, and the number of hours of video content you can upload.

Some extras, such as the Site Booster app (for SEO), or Wix's visitor analytics app are offered to Unlimited, Pro, and VIP subscribers. For the first two tiers, however, after a year of usage, you'll need to pay extra for them. Logos made in Wix's Logo Maker are only part of the VIP package. This highest subscriber tier also enjoys priority customer service, but, even as a 'regular' user, we didn't have to wait long for a support staffer.

So much for the Website subscriptions. If you'd like to accept digital payments and open an online store, you'll need to book a Business/eCommerce plan.

All of Wix's ecommerce plans are ad-free and include a custom domain and unlimited bandwidth. Basic ecommerce features are also part of the mix: You can accept encrypted online payments, offer recurring payments, set up custom accounts, and recover carts with automatic emails. None of the subscriptions limit the number of products you can sell.

Differences between the subscriptions are mostly in terms of web space and video hours. Some features aren't offered at all in the Business Basic plan, such as the ability to offer subscriptions, display different currencies, take advantage of automatic tax calculations, or sell on digital marketplaces. Customer ratings can only be solicited by Business Unlimited and Business VIP subscribers.

The Business VIP plan also offers unlimited dropshipping and video hours.

Apart from the premium subscriptions, Wix also offers a free plan, which imposes a few limitations. For starters, you'll be tied to a Wix subdomain and have to put up with ads. As such, it's only an option for private or hobby projects, but not professional websites.

Free version limitations

Hidden fees can quickly exhaust any budget. For that reason, it's important to know exactly what you'll need to pay for with Wix and when. By reading carefully, you can head off any nasty surprises, however, there are a few things to keep in mind.

It's difficult to compare website builders in terms of price since each offers a wide array of subscription plans that include different features, and various discounts, offers, or conditions. To keep things simple, we select the most affordable, ad-free, 12-month subscription that includes a custom domain from each service in our sample.

Among the 12 platforms we tested, Wix was one of the pricier options. However, since it offers discounts on a fairly regular basis, you should be able to save quite a bit in the first year.

Exactly how much a Wix website costs depends on the subscription plan, its length, any extras you include, and purchases you make in the app market. For a custom domain and ad-free website, you'll pay $16 per month, while an online shop will set you back $27 a month. If you can live with a Wix subdomain and banner ads, the Israeli provider does offer a free version, at least for those interested in regular websites.

Overall, Wix is not a particularly affordable website builder, however, it does provide one of the best packages on the market. With its versatile Website and Business/eCommerce subscriptions, frequent sales, and regular discounts, it's possible to get a good deal with Wix.
